In my work, I have been interested in the tensions and contradictions present in memory. As a part of this larger theme, during my stay at the American Academy Rome in the spring of 2021, I completed 20 drawings of a selection of triumphal arches as a single multifaceted work. After visiting a site without sketching the location, I would return to the studio and attempt to draw the arch from memory. Different methods of remembering were employed in the works, calling into question the perception of memory and the nature of drawing as a mode of translation.
The resulting works were displayed at an exhibition in 2023 hosted by the ICAA in New York City.
